Sharing the Space: Building Connections Through Dance

Something I've seen over the years of teaching adults to dance, is seeing so many people come together and share the same love. Dance really does bring people together, it's a universal language.
The power of rhythm begins within us at a very young age. Babies kick their legs to music, and toddlers bop along. This inner child remains with us throughout our lives. Dance gives that inner child a voice and a way to connect with others.
At Charlie Cooper Dance, we unite adults. Our current students range from 18 to 54 years old. These adults, whose lives might never have intersected outside of CCD, share classes, encourage one another, and celebrate together. At social gatherings, they dance, eat, and drink together.
Dance is inclusive, and not just dance, but dance for adults in particular. There is no discrimination.
Wondering if dancing as an adult is your thing? Let me give you a quick rundown of the awesome mix of people who have found a safe space at Charlie Cooper Dance. We've got mums, university students, lawyers, business owners, dance teachers, surveyors, retail workers, bartenders, managers, vet nurses, singers, pole dancers, school teachers, consultants, and so many others. So, if you're on the fence about joining, just think about this list; the one thing they all share is the happiness dance brings them.
So, why am I writing this blog? Well, we just had a Christmas party, and there was an amazing moment where two women were dancing together in the middle of a circle formed by the other dancers. One of them is 20, and the other is 54, both dancing to the same music, in the same space as one another. Despite their different life stories and backgrounds, and living in different towns, they came together through CCD. It's an image that's going to stick with me for a long time.
This very moment has also inspired the theme for our debut show - coming together through dance, connections through dance, community through dance. It's a space to heal, a space to feel safe. Whatever your age, dance and music will always hold space for you.
Keep an eye out for our show date to be released very soon. Our light hearted, yet tear jerking show, is not to be missed.
